MTR Update

Update on the Vanguard MTR (Mask Tension Reliever) prototypes:
About 130-140 prototype MTRs have been distributed for testing and evaluation to a local clinic, a local hospital, and a few others to some friends, family, and co-workers.

Preliminary feedback from some of the users has been mostly positive for users wearing professional masks of the disposable kind with suitably long, stretchy ear bands.

Users of most home-made masks with shorter elastic band ear loops (including the mask I personally own) has revealed that these 4" long MTR models are not useable for this type of mask without a lot of discomfort.

The batch of 4" units you see being made here may be the last of their kind. Newer units will likely be made at a 6" or 7" length to bring the attachment points closer to the ears for less tension on the ear bands of both types of masks. This last batch of 4" MTRs will be donated to the same local hospital as the first batch as they have requested more of them.

While these originally were designed to be worn with the upper half of the ear band over the top of the ear, most users have found that both upper and lower sections of the bands can be worn more comfortably below the ear, with the MTR resting lower on the head at about the hairline at the back of the neck.

Once I get underway making the longer model as the standard model, and I have enough extras to sell, they will be put up for sale on the Vanguard Belts website for the general public. I am estimating a cost of about $2.00 each, with possible bundles of 6, 12, 25, and maybe 50 units being sold at suitable bundle pricing points to be determined.

It is the intent of Vanguard Belts to donate most of the MTRs made to medical professionals on the front lines of the Covid-19 battle that are forced to wear masks for prolonged periods of time. We cannot continue this endeavor without your help in the form of donations (large or small, doesn't matter -- every dollar helps). If you wish to contribute, donations can be accepted at this time via PayPal at the following email address:

If you know of a hospital, clinic, or other medical facility in need of MTRs for the staff, please email me at that same address above and let me know how many to make and where I can send them. I can't guarantee a quick turnaround as I am one person making these, one at a time, in my free time. This is a personal endeavor on behalf of the business and I'll do the best that I can to keep up with demand.

More to come soon!
