Why the name Vanguard?

I didn't pluck the name out of thin air because it sounded cool. I envisioned this company as leading the way; being on the forefront of new belt technology, and pushing the envelope forward. Sure, the terms "belt technology" and "pushing the envelope" may sound a little overblown for such a simple item as a belt. But the synthetic material used and its internal construction give Vanguard Belts a significant advantage over inferior, antiquated leather and give the belts a cutting edge appeal. I felt this material could be the future of belts, but people needed to be made aware that the material exists before it would ever get a foothold in the market.

Many new customers to Vanguard Belts had never heard of the existence of synthetic coated webbing. They may have been familiar with common nylon or polyester webbing straps, like those used in common shoulder straps on laptop bags, duffle bags, backpacks, etc. But most hadn't heard of TPU coated webbing, nor were they familiar with the benefits and advantages it has over common webbing. And they are seldom aware of the advantages it has over the thin, low-grade leather commonly found in belts bought at big box retailers.

Vanguard seemed a fitting name for something new, something few others are doing, and something that represents the forefront of the "widget" I'm selling: quality, durable belts designed with concealed carry in mind.

I am excited for the future of this now 6 year old company. Up until recently, I made and sold nothing but belts. Recently I added the keychain belt clips to the line-up -- not an overwhelmingly exciting item, but certainly functional and also durable by design. The keychain belt clips are starting to sell now that they've made their way to my table at the gun shows.

I have some new items in development (two, specifically) that I hope to add to the product line-up in the online catalog soon. When they come to fruition, you may see a few minor changes to the website, including an adjustment to the name of the business. Don't worry, it will still be Vanguard, and belts will still be my core business. But I've said to many customers since I've started the company that I have always intended to expand into other items that utilize the same synthetic materials and that can enhance the every day carry (EDC) and concealed carry experience. This is where I hope to take the company going forward, again with the idea of being on the vanguard of the concealed carry lifestyle.
